Welcome to Harbin Guide!
Thinking of visiting the Harbin Ice Festival and Snow Festival? You’ve probably seen the incredible photos of giant ice structures glowing in the dark. But what those photos don’t show is the brutal -30°C (-22°F) cold that can freeze your phone battery in five minutes and make walking outside feel like a challenge.
We created this guide to help you plan your trip to Harbin Ice Festival and Snow World without the stress. We’ll cover how to book tickets online, the best things to do in the park, and most importantly how to stay warm so you can actually enjoy your time there.
🚌 Heated Private Transport
Public transport back to central Harbin from Harbin Ice Festival can be chaotic when the park closes at 9:00 PM. If you want a hassle-free experience with a local guide and a warm private car, we highly recommend booking a Harbin Private 1-Day City Tour.

Things to Do at the Harbin Ice Festival

- The Main Ice Palace, this is the centerpiece of the park. It’s built entirely from ice blocks pulled from the frozen Songhua River. The lights turn on around 4:00 PM, which is the best time for photos. You can also take a cable car
- The 500-Meter Ice Slide, the most popular ride in the park. You slide down on a plastic sled. *Note: The queue here can easily take 1.5 to 2 hours. If you want to do this, head straight to the slides as soon as you enter the park at noon.
- International Snow Sculptures, located in a quieter section of the park. These are massive, detailed sculptures carved out of packed snow. They look best during daylight.
- The Ferris Wheel, a giant, heated Ferris Wheel that gives you a view of the entire lit-up ice city from above.

How to Actually Enjoy the Harbin Ice Festival
Most people only stay inside the park for 2 to 3 hours because the cold is so intense. Here are some practical tips from our experience:
- Buy a China eSIM Before You Arrive, Google Translate and maps are essential for navigating, but they are blocked in China. Get an eSIM that bypasses the firewall so you don’t have to worry about VPNs. Get China Travel eSIM
- Stick Hand Warmers on Your Phone, extreme cold drains lithium batteries instantly. Your phone might drop from 80% to 0% in ten minutes. Keep your phone in an inside pocket and stick an adhesive heat pack to the back of your phone case.
- Go in the Afternoon, enter the park around 2:00 PM. This gives you time to see the white snow sculptures in daylight, watch the sunset, and see the lights turn on at 4:00 PM without spending too many hours in the freezing night cold.
